Synopsis: Masiphumelele or Masi is a township near Cape Town, South Africa, where high crime rates and limited access to the police have necessitated community-based security measures. The film portrays the way of the Bambanani and Street Committee volunteer movements‘ fight against the crime in Masi.
Inhalt: Masiphumelele, auch Masi genannt, ist ein Township in Cape Town, Südafrika. Eine hohe Kriminalitätsrate und ein beschränkter Zugang der Polizei haben die Bürger dazu veranlasst, selbst für ihre Sicherheit zu sorgen. Der Film porträtiert den Kampf der Bambanani, die sich in einer nachbarschaftlichen Freiwilligen-Gruppe organisieren, gegegen das Verbrechen in Masi.

Synopsis: The year is 1984. Zeynep, who lives in Diyarbakir with her three children, wants to visit her husband in prison. Zeynep is only able to speak her mother tongue ‘Kurdish’; however, only the Turkish language is allowed to be spoken in prison, so she’s unable to utter a word there. On the other hand, she wants to bring a new pair of shoes to her husband but it’s forbidden to bring anything to prisoners from outside…
Inhalt: Im Jahr 1984 möchte Zeynep, die mit ihren drei Kindern in Diyarbakir wohnt, ihren Mann im Gefängnis besuchen. Sie spricht nur Kurdisch, im Gefängnis sind Unterhaltungen allerdings nur auf Türkisch erlaubt so dass sie nicht ein Wort sagen darf. Auch braucht ihr Mann ein neues Paar Schuhe, Häftlingen darf aber nichts mitgebracht werden.
